Chemex Ottomatic 2.0
$350.00
Chemex was invented in 1941 and went on to become an iconic American coffeemaker, taking its place in the Museum of Modern Art alongside Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass windows and the Eames lounge chair. I enjoy the daily ritual of manual coffee brewing, hand-grinding and slowly pouring water over the bed of grounds to produce a unique cup every time. But there are times when it's nice to have a machine to do it for me. Having company over or brewing coffee in the midst of cooking, the Ottomatic is the perfect solution. The technical design of this brewer is just like that of Technivorm's Moccamaster, which we sold way back in the early days of DoubleShot. At the time, it was the best and most stylish brewer on the market, but it did have a couple of issues that drove me crazy, and the Ottomatic solves both of these. First, the shower head on the Moccamaster was only focused on the center of the grounds, and water would usually drip off the end of the spout, creating an uneven extraction. The Ottomatic has a round showerhead that disperses the water evenly over the bed of grounds. The second problem with the Moccamaster was the limitation of using an integrated brew basket. When using DoubleShot coffee, the freshness will cause the coffee to bloom and overflow the filter or touch the showerhead. Since the Ottomatic brews into the Chemex, there's no chance of this happening and all you end up with is a delicious cup of coffee. This one comes with a black leather rawhide string. Do it.
